EastEnders star Shona McGarty has admitted that she would have loved a happy ending for her character Whitney Dean and Fatboy Chubb.

The pair have been in a relationship for some time, but Thursday night’s episode will see Whitney finally tell Fatboy that she only sees him as a friend.

In contrast, Whitney has developed strong feelings for Tyler Moon (Tony Discipline) since his arrival on Albert Square last year.

However, McGarty told This Morning today: “As a viewer of EastEnders – and I love EastEnders, I’ve watched it for years – I would personally think that Whitney should go for Fatboy, just because he’s so lovely and he genuinely cares.

“For Whitney to go with Tyler now is just a risk to take. She doesn’t know where it’s going to go.”

McGarty said that Whitney’s views on the love triangle are very different, as she feels she made a mistake by getting romantically involved with Fatboy (Ricky Norwood).

She explained: “I think Whitney loves him as a friend. I think she always loved him as a friend, but just got a bit confused after everything that had happened to her. She needed a shoulder to cry on.”

EastEnders star Shona McGarty has said that fans of the soap would be disappointed if her character Whitney Dean missed out on a happy ending.

Whitney is currently at the centre of a love triangle with Tyler Moon (Tony Discipline) and Arthur ‘Fat Boy’ Chubb (Ricky Norwood), which reaches a climax in the coming days as she makes a choice between them.

McGarty told We Love Telly: “I think Tyler is the one and has been all along. They have a lot of chemistry.

“Fat Boy is too much of a friend. She was attracted to him because he was safe after all she’d been through. Now she doesn’t need a shoulder to cry on.”

Asked whether everything will resolve itself for Whitney, the actress replied: “Yes, I hope so. I think it will be frustrating for viewers if Whitney makes another mistake.

“Hopefully she can be happy. But it won’t happen yet, because she thinks Tyler’s fooling around with Lucy.”

EastEnders will air the love triangle drama all this week on BBC One.

EastEnders star Shona ­McGarty‘s has admitted that the crossover between her on-screen and off-screen love life is “weird”.

The actress plays Whitney Dean, who next week starts dating Tyler Moon – played by Tony Discipline.

In real life, McGarty is in a relationship with his ­EastEnders brother Anthony, played by Matt Lapinskas.

Meanwhile, Discipline is seeing Jacqueline Jossa, who plays Lauren Branning – Whitney’s best friend.

“We didn’t plan this, but you can’t help who you fall in love with,” McGarty told the Sunday Mirror. “I got together with Matt last August and I love absolutely everything about him. He makes me laugh and I tell him stuff I wouldn’t tell anyone else.

“I completely trust him. But I suppose at the moment it is a bit like the kind of plot our writers would come up with, because I’m sort of going out with two brothers. It was a bit weird at first. But we’ve all brought the situation upon ourselves by falling for each other and now we just laugh about it.

“Jacqueline doesn’t mind me kissing her man and Matt doesn’t mind me ­kissing his EastEnders brother. It’s just a job and the romantic scenes are all part of it.”

Speaking of her real-life romance with Lapinskas, she added: “We’ve already spoken about moving in together, although we’ve decided it’s a bit early. I’ve never felt anything like this ­before.

“People say it’s a honeymoon period, but I really hope it lasts and that this doesn’t turn out to be like an EastEnders storyline and all go wrong.”

She concluded that she’d like Whitney to cheat on Tyler with Anthony so they could film scenes together.

She said: ‘I’d tell Whitney to slow down before she speaks and to slow down until she decides what she wants. That’s how she ended up with Fat Boy, when it’s Tyler she really loves.’

Meanwhile, Tony thinks his alter-ego has been dishonourable by making a move on Whitney before telling his mate Fat Boy about his true feelings.

He added in an interview with Inside Soap magazine: ‘I’d probably tell Tyler off, actually. I think he should have been honest with Fat Boy before he made a move on Whitney – the two of them are good mates, after all.’

However, Ricky believes his character should make a run for it and ditch Whitney before she has the chance to break his heart.

He said: ‘Fat Boy should run! Whitney obviously isn’t in love with him, and Fat Boy needs and deserves to be appreciated for who he is.’
